Gestalt Therapy Australia (GTA) offers a 4 year psychotherapy training course that explores and deepens relational capacities within the framework of gestalt theory and practice. Trainees are invited into an experiential process to expand self-awareness as a means to developing a therapeutic presence.
Who it’s for:
Open to both those working with relevant qualifications and memberships of professional organisations, and those who are new to therapy, who will not yet be eligible for full professional membership. The four-year training program is accredited by PACFA as a Specialist Training (post-grad), and graduates of our program who meet PACFA’s recognised prior learning requirements (RPL) are eligible for membership and registration.

Graduate Certificate: In this year students will gain an understanding of the principles and practice of Gestalt therapy and its application to counselling, psychotherapy, group, community and organisational work.
Masters: The Master of Gestalt Therapy is a specialist qualification, which teaches Gestalt theory, methodology and practice in an intensive program. Students will be asked to show a demonstrable ability to apply these in their work as a therapist with individuals, groups, couples, families. Students will also be introduced to a Gestalt approach to working in organisational settings, corporations and with communities.

Anyone interested in gestalt therapy for their personal or professional development. It is also the pathway into the masters program. Practitioners looking to become qualified gestalt therapists with eligibility for membership and registration with relevant professional associations.

The primary goal of completing this training course is the development of a high level of competency as a Gestalt Therapist, with a unique personal style; one that reflects the individuality and personal background of the practitioner and recognises and respects individual differences. The GTIWA programme is designed to progressively develop the personal, theoretical and practical skills of trainees, with an initial emphasis on enhancement of awareness and a subsequent shift to skills building and a deeper understanding of theoretical issues involved in the practice of Gestalt therapy. Progression through the programme is not automatic, but by satisfactory completion of each yearly module.

Offers of a place in the training programme are based on professional qualifications, work experience and personal suitability. Preference is given to applicants with training in a Mental Health Profession such as Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Medicine & Psychiatry, and other Health Care Professions.
