Michael Craig Clemmens Webinar
“Relational Embodiment as Co-Assessment of Process and Direction in Gestalt Therapy”
Zoom online interactive presentation
June 18 2022 9:00am – 12:00pm
In this presentation Micheal will describe how to use our own somatic experience and that of our client to collaboratively assess and describe what is emergent and the possible directions for the therapeutic process.
Observation can be a privileged position based on a priori categories like movement, nervous system patterns, body language, and structure. These perspectives are useful, yet they don’t include the influence and impact of the therapist. Without including ourselves. we create a partial story leaving out our embodied influencing and evocation of what emerges in the therapeutic process.
Our relational interaction with clients is an embodied “dance” which emerges in therapy and is both the context and the dynamic of our engagement. By attending to these physical shifts and movements in our emotional dialogue, we can co-assess the client’s process, our own engagement and the potential directions of the work.
